# Add/update retention time for a data asset

1. Login as a Governance Manager. 
2. Go to *Actions -> Data Catalog*.
3. Select the data from the data catalog.
4. Go to Privacy tab.
5. Select the Retention time from the dropdown.
6. Click the *Add* button.
7. The UI allows the user to overwrite the retention time also. E.g. - Change the Retention Time from Days to month and values get updated for the data asset.\
